Production of 2,4-D butylate for domestic use in China terminated from January 29, 2021

On January 28, 2021, the registration certificate PD20160077 for a 2,4-D butylate product, which is the last 2,4-D butylate product allowed for supply to Chinese domestic market, expired and is not renewed. This shows that China has terminated the 2,4-D butylate production for supply to domestic market from January 29, 2021, whilst 2,4-D butylate's business operations and the uses are terminated from January 29, 2023 (calculated as per the 2-year valid period of product).

On December 31, 2015, based on the monitor and risk assessment results of “2,4-D butylate is volatile and easy to cause pesticide damages to applied crops and adjacent crops when being used; 2,4-D butylate is highly acute toxic to aquatic organism, whilst chronic toxicity is characterized by a declined survival rate and decreased reproductive capacity; there is a risk of endocrine interference to human beings,” a review committee of the former Ministry of Agriculture suggested that field trial and application for registration of 2,4-D butylate shall no longer be accepted and approved, the application for renewal of registration of pesticides containing 2,4-D butylate shall no longer be accepted and renewal of registration of relevant products shall be terminated.

Up until the end of January 2021, there are still 28 2,4-D butylate registrations being valid for export (not for sale on domestic market), including 6 technicals and 21 formulations.
